What We Do

The entire ideology of the Ramakrishna Monastic tradition has been put into a nut shell by Swami Vivekananda as () - "for one's own salvation and for the welfare of the world". And it is for that we, the inmates, have renounced and we live for that. All our thoughts, planning and activities are to fulfill that end. Implementation of this ideology in an Ashrama finds its expression and functions through three channels.

  1. Inmates' personal spiritual practices and disciplines for one's own spiritual attainments and monastic disciplines such as Prayers, worship, Japa, meditation, physical exercises, studies and learning. Successively by turns, one inmate for one month, sits Tapasya.
  2. Ashrama's internal work and activities : Kitchen, sweeping/cleaning, garden, constructions, temple's daily services, purchases, repairs and maintenance.
  3. The external activities - service for public:

    1. Daily worship, spiritual classes/discourses, daily prayers, bhajans, Ekadasi - Ramanama Sankirtana, Bhajanamrutha Every Month, Scriptural Classes and Discousrces, Yogasana Abhyasa, Samskritha Classes, Balaka and Balika Sangha every weekend, vesper services, Attending devotees, visitors, counselling, help to the needy (students, old-age, medical help.) other service activities.

    2. Festivals and Celebrations: Ashrama observes the birthday celebrations of Sri Ramakrishna, Ma Sarada and Swami Vivekananda and the 15 other direct disciples, Kalpataru day (1st Jan), Renunciation day (24th Dec), Independence Day, Environmental Day, Siva rathri, Guru poornima, Ganesh Chathurthi, Krishnashtami, Durga Puja etc.,. Every Sunday there will be Japa Yagna whole night. Celebrations will have Bhajans, prayers, vedic chanting, puja, homa and discourses. Food and accommodation too are provided.

    3. INSPIRE (the Vyakthitva Vikasana Vibhag of Sri Ramakrishna Sharada Ashrama):
    4. Personality Development Programmes, Residential Camps for Students, Yogasana Shibiras, Speak Samskrit Camps for promotion of Samskrit as spoken language, Vasanthakalaravam - Summer Camps for students, Dress distribution to the needy and underprivileged girl children are some of the activities carried under this.

Sharada Foundation

Sharada Foundation is the Independent wing coming up for Women Monastic and non-monastic. 9 acres of Land has been acquired to build an independent Ashrama for women. We have to construct a Temple with Prayer Hall, then Living quarters, Kitchen, dining hall, office and Library for Women renunciates. And we need funds for all those; it must come from the devotees and well-wishers.
